Context.
Merger of two large British banking organizations. Head offices 80 miles apart, both vying to become the new head office.
Problem.
Growing IT development team, with a staff of over 500 systems analysts, programmers and testers. 18 months after merger, IT organizations still warring for supremacy. Two distinctly different cultures and approaches to system development projects.
Action.
Pulled together a team of systems analyst subject matter experts to for a Methodology Committee. Designed a full system development methodology. Life-cycle began at project conception and ran to post-implementation review
Results.
Increased consistency of development standards. Improved interfaces and handover. Received BS 5750 and ISO 9000 certification. Enabled 40% improvement of project deliverables and planning accuracy.
Development Methodology
